My Best Shot Ever - Howth Photographic Club
Photo 1 by Kathy D.: Keukenhof Gardens
The Keukenhof Gardens in Holland where I spent a glorious afternoon photographing the formal gardens. My senses were overpowered with the expanse of colour - the differing greens of the trees bursting into leaf, the pastel colours of the tree blossoms the many varieties and colours of the flowering bulbs and the heady scent of the hyacinths. I was in heaven with my camera surrounded by spring exploding.
Photo 2 by Vivion M: Looking for a Seat
This was in an auditorium. I was lucky to capture the moment when the person was standing in the aisle. The photo was massively and deliberately under-exposed to eliminate all detail and to get the minimalist look.
Photo 2 by Kathy D: My grandson
A pure delight to watch my grandson run around the garden after he was found splashing in the only puddle in the garden. The photos of his visit to Ireland where he experienced many firsts are extra special as we are unable to travel during the lockdown.
Photo 3 by Vivion M: Night Glow
This shot was made at a hot-air balloon competition at Echternach Lake, Luxembourg, exactly at midnight. I was pleased that I managed to trip the shutter just as the fireworks were rising into the night sky. I really like the colours. Shot with a Leica M9 and a 90 mm prime lens on a tripod, from the other side of the lake.
On an early morning game drive in the Serengeti we came across a pride of juvenile male lions. We watched them for about 30 minutes as they strolled along the road, lay down and drank from the puddles in the ruts in the road and interacted with each other as teenagers do. They wandered around our vehicle for a short while and then headed off into the grassland. I love the affection in this photo and the position of the tail. They still have some of their youthful spots which will disappear as they age.
Photo 1 by Michael M - Bicycle in the rain
This was taken on a club outing in Dublin there was no picture untill the bus driver switched on the lights,so i grabbed it fast before the bus drove away.
Photo by Tony M: A Kodak Moment
The reason why I think this photo "A Kodak Moment" is my best shot ever is that the picture depicts three friends unusually walking out of the picture as against walking towards the camera. They are walking up a city street together, the older child is obviously in charge and is keeping the two smaller ones safe by holding their hands. The two smaller children obviously respect and admire the older girl and feel that its "cool" to imitate her wearing backpacks and coloured bows in their hair too. The colour of the girls clothing and accessories stand out in contrast with other peoples bland clothing in the street.
This is a picture of two children hand in hand, running together with the same foot raised, on the sand at a beach. It represents in a general way any parent's kids, the older one minding the younger one, the colour schemes of the boy and the girl, the children running headlong without a care. Sand is a metaphor for time and so this picture taken in 2006 of my kids operates at a very emotional level for me such that I see them running towards their future.
Photo 2 by Michael M: Snow Trail
This was a shot I saw during the last big snow. I always liked it.
Photo by Jean C: A special place
A special place, 6.00AM, calm and still, the sun up, warm but not yet hot, the day waiting….
Photo 1 by Noelle S: Canon to Nikon
I had just changed from Nikon to Canon, apprehensively, and fired off the first few shots (all on manual). When I went through them I saw this one of Sophie and I was stunned by her blue eyes and sharp curls. I was hooked on Canon from that moment.
Photo 1 by Vivion M - The Favoured One
This shot is from Luxembourg City. I had visualised it for weeks beforehand. I really like the contrast between the two windows; one shining in the light and in the foreground, the other smaller, darker and in the background where the sun never shines.
Photo 2 by Noelle S: Howth Pier (HYC)
It was a beautiful day in Howth and I was looking for shots of Howth for the Michael Edwards My Town Competition. I had great lighting that afternoon but was looking for something different which is when I walked past the new Pontoon outside Howth Yacht Club and captured this shot which ended up winning a Prize.
